THE ISLAND AT THE END OF THE WORLD

From the squeaky white sand and lichen-splashed granite of the east coast to the alpine plateaus of Cradle Mountain, Tasmania punches well above its weight when it comes to natural beauty.

The stunning Tiger Tasmania Rally not only explores this island state but also provides a chance to see some of the best places in Victoria.

THE TARGA STAGES

Our event also pays homage to the great Targa Tasmania rally by driving most of its stages. We have optional Regularity competition on these sections although we make sure you have an opportunity to enjoy the journey as well.

HOW THE RALLY WORKS

On arrival in Melbourne you will pick up your car and head to the Spirit of Tasmania ferry for the overnight crossing to Devonport. Your crossing includes a cabin for two. We then spend two weeks exploring Tasmania before returning to the mainland and a further two weeks exploring Victoria State.

CARS

The event is open to vehicles built before 1985 to be eligible for the competition. To come and enjoy the event just bring your favourite car.

TASMANIA

Once disembarked we regroup at the Café Squire before our drive to Launcesteon via Paloona, Sheffield, Mt Roland and Nook. Each day is punctuated by a series of special roads used for the Targa Tasmania. These roads are used on the Targa for good reason – they are the best on the island!

But it’s not just about the drive, we also visit wineries, museums, historic locations, art establishments, beaches, coasts, rivers  and much more. All the while we stay in the best hotels we can find to suit the group.

We do go ‘off-piste’ and drive a small amount of gravel in the interests of finding a great drive – however it is all smooth and you don’t need a special car for this event.

The Tiger Tasmania is designed to give you the time to see and appreciate the roads, countryside, people, art and history from Cradle Mountain to Wineglass Bay, not to mention the odd national park, incredible lakes, harbours and beaches.

With multiple rest days we have the opportunity to sample the local cuisine, visit museums and historic sights and get a chance to catch our breath. With a unique wilderness, unusual wildlife, extraordinary arts and fabulous food, it’s a real Tasmanian experience.

VICTORIA

From Devonport we catch the Spirit of Tasmania back to the mainland. Arriving in Melbourne early we head west to meet up with the Great Ocean Road. From here we take in the best of the coast including the world famous 12 Apostles. If the weather’s good you can take a helicopter ride to see the 12 Apostles close up. The day ends in Warrnambool.

Turning north the following morning we drive to Mount Gambier, famous for the Blue Lake, one of a group of volcanic craters in the area. From there it’s an excellent drive to Horsham.

Victoria is full of surprises and the drive to Ballarat is no exception as we climb the Grampian Mountain range and include the famous Halls Gap which we will reach at lunch time.

Ballarat, our stop for the night, was a gold rush town from 1851 and our day off here will give us the chance to visit an old mine and exhibition of those heady days.

Our drive to Bendigo is shorter but packed with sights and sounds of Victoria, providing an unexpectedly exciting drive. Next stop is Wangaratta the gateway to the Great Alpine Drive, a day long route through a series of hills and passes, finishing on the coast at Lakes Entrance, a favourite seaside resort for Victorians.

Our final day starts with an easy flat drive through the lowlands towards Melbourne but has a sting in its tail as we work our way through some of the most deserted and beautiful scenery in the state. Our finishing point is Chateau Yering, sitting on one of the most valuable wine estates in the region. Nearby is the home of Dame Nelly Melba which is now also a wine estate. We will be arranging a private tour of the house on the final day.
