3 DAY CLASSIC CAR REGULARITY RALLY

May 15th to 17th, 2024

3

D-Day Beaches, Battle sites, Memorials, Saint Mere Egllise.

With 2024 being the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings we are running our own tribute to mark the D-Day Landings. Our D-Day Rally incudes a comprehensive tour of the main landing sites and other significant battles which occurred during Operation Overlord in June 1944.

Highlights include: Sword, Juno, Gold, Omaha and Utah beaches, Sainte Mere Eglise parachute site and the Falaise pocket which saw the biggest tank battle of the campaign and the final battle before the Germans retreated to ultimate defeat.

DAY 1

We meet at the La Phare Restaurant in Ouistreham after the overnight ferry from Portsmouth docks at 7.30am. Breakfast is provided from 8.00am where you will meet the crew and fellow participants. Following this our first stop is at Pegasus Bridge where we have an exclusive and private talk on the significance of this opening encounter of the landings.

Our route then heads towards the beaches where we see where 160,000 troops landed on June 6th 1944. Each beach had its own special difficulty and as we go from Sword to Juno to Gold and Omaha on our first rally day you can read the moving accounts of the invasion and how the combined forces from the UK, Canada, other commonwealth and European forces and the Americans overcame the stubborn resistance of the Germans and Rommel’s Atlantic Wall defences.

Tonight is our first night at the exclusive Chateau d’Audrieu.

DAY 2

On our second day we head towards the Cherbourg Peninsular and Utah beach, the scene of the major American landing and paratrooper drops. From Utah we travel up the peninsular hugging the coast before turning inland, weaving through the countryside of the Headgerow battle area before stopping at Saint Mere Eglise, the town made famous by a paratrooper who got stuck on the spire of the church. Throughout your day you will pass by numerous memorial sites and museums which you can visit at your leisure.

Our regularity competition winds its way round out of the way routes which gives another perspective on the backroads of Normandy.

Tonight is our second night at Chateau d’Audrieu.

DAY 3

For Day 3 we explore the end of the D-Day campaign where the allies encircled the German panzer force in an area called the Falaise Pocket. This decisive tank battle was the final battle of the campaign and saw 40,000 Germans captured and 500 tanks and assault guns destroyed.

Some Germans had escaped but this decisive battle led to the liberation of Paris a few days later and ultimately the German forces were weakened to the point of losing the war.

For lunch we take the rally to the beautiful port of Honfleur, then a scenic drive along the coast past Deauville to Cabourg where we have our final rally dinner and prize giving before dispersing.

Our D-Day rally is limited to just 20 cars due to the capacity at our stunning hotel, Chateau d’Audrieu which we have taken for the exclusive use of the rally. Book early to avoid disappointment.

What our participants say!

Adrian Turner, The Slartibartfast 2017

“The genius of Slartibartfast is that it combines an eight day rally through the whole of Scandinavia with a luxury six day cruise and tour along the Atlantic coast of Norway; it takes you as far east as Egypt and further north than Alaska.”
