THE GREAT AMAZON ADVENTURE
TOURING/ENDURO CAR RALLY
September 23 – October 19, 2021
SURINAME – FRENCH GUIANA – BRAZIL – PERU
Our unique Amazon Adventure classic car rally returns in September 2021 offering a month long event from the Atlantic to the Pacific. Starting in Suriname the rally visits French Guiana, Brazil and Peru.
From the jungles of Suriname and French Guiana down to the Amazon river we follow the rainforest through the Trans Amazonica Highway. In Peru we visit Lake Titicaca, Machu Picchu, Colca Canyon and the Nazca Lines before finishing in Lima.
The rally starts from Paramaribo, the capital city of Suriname, previously Dutch Guiana. Here you will be amazed to find they drive on the left as in the UK. We collect the cars and stay in the best hotel in Paramaribo before crossing into French Guiana which is in the EU! Here they speak French, use the Euro and have French supermarkets at French prices!
Our next river crossing takes us into Brazil on our way to the mighty Amazon. Once at the great river we spend two amazing nights and a day on Bruno, a ‘modern’ ferry from Macapa to Santarem as there are no roads along this section. You will have time to marvel at the Amazon, meet the locals, watch the crazy scenes as they load and unload the river ferries and have time to listen to the sounds of nature under the Amazon sky.
Once we land in Santarem we are in the rainforest proper. With the vast canopy all around us for the next few days we will drive through the Amazon National Reserve without a tourist in sight – in fact barely another car on the road.
Arriving in Porto Velho we pause for a well-earned day off before continuing our journey to Peru. Our first stop there is Puerto Maldonado where we explore the Peruvian end of the Rainforest. From here we climb to Urubamba and have time for a visit to Machu Picchu and Cusco. Driving across the Altiplano or high plains we go to Colca Canyon, home of the amazing Condor. Then it’s down to Puno and Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world, before driving the ancient Pan Americana route to Arequipa. It’s a great drive from here to the Nazca lines which are best seen from the air, before departing for Lima, the end point of this unique event.
The highlights of the event include visiting the European Space Agency in French Guiana, a two night ferry trip along the Amazon River, the people and scenery in Brazil, the Rainforest, the amazing local markets in Peru, Machu Picchu, Lake Titicaca, Colca Canyon and Nasca links. Places are limited to just 15 cars as accommodation at some points is at a premium.

We suggest you take a well prepared classic car or a 4×4 of any age on this adventure. All roads have been recced and the route is completely open. However, in the Amazonas region some roads are graded rather than tarmac – this can vary from very slow and rough to fast and flowing dirt.
It goes without saying that although we are going at the best time of year, it is still a hot and sticky environment in the forest where it rains from time to time.
Each night you will have a hotel room
with en-suite, while on the ferry there are air-conditioned cabins available. Breakfast is included each day, so are most of the evening meals.
We aim to keep man and machine together so provide mechanical back-up as well as a medic for those little ailments.
