Cuenca Rest Day

The Four Points Sheraton in Cuenca is not a bad place to get some rest and relaxation, for both man, woman and machine. Participants and crew alike took time out to do a little work on their cars and motorcycles, brakes being the main issue….not surprising after all our up hill and down dale excursions of late. The main points of interest – apart from eating some tasty meals in a relaxed atmosphere, were a visit to the local town, the Panama hat makers and floor 10 where the warm pool and jacuzzi were situated.

Then came the highlight of our day, long awaited for, and well worth any wait…..  classic cars from all over the District gathered at our hotel. They squeezed into the car park, joining our classic cars and support vehicles, in celebration of all things automotive. Local people stopped by to say Hello and have their photos taken with all the cars; and participants, crew and locals all mingled and chatted over their common interest. I’ll let the photos tell the story.

All this was helped along by the massive screen on the hotel roof showing the video of our journey so far… its not a great pic, but you get the idea…

Then, finally, a champagne reception was there for all to enjoy, helped along by The Military Band who played beautifully for us, whilst civic dignitaries chatted with rally dignitaries. The hotel reception and dining areas were abuzz with people laughing, eating and generally having a grand time.

Hopefully everyone will get to bed at a reasonable time, as we have a 7.30 start! And not too much champagne!
